Bollywood and Hinduism

Bollywood is the name given to the Hindi film industry in India. As most of the Indians are Hindus, it is inevitable that Hinduism plays an important role in Bollywood.

If you have seen any Hindi films, you might have noticed that most of the Hindi films start with Hindu mantras such as Gayatri Mantra or Sarva Mangal Mangalye and/or with photographs of deities such as Lord Ganesha, Goddess Laxmi, Gurudatta, etc. Lots of banners have Hindu names such as Om Productions, Lord Ganesha Entertainment, etc.

Before the launch of any film, producers wait for the Muhurat. Muhurat is auspicious time on a auspicious day. Producers and film actors/actresses visit the famous temples of deities such as Tirupati Balaji or Sidhdi Vinayak before the release of films, so that God would help to make a film super hit.

Most of the producers and actors have their personal Gurus, which guide them in terms of astrology and their career. Some producers even name the films starting with a particular letter. They also take the help of numerology, as they believe that their film would make good business if they do so.

Besides that, a number of films have so far been made on different Hindu deities and saints. Lots of them have made a good business also. In the initial days of Bollywood, most of the films were based upon Hindu gods and goddesses and saints. Though now a days, the trend is different but still there come a few films which are based on Hindu deities. Lots of filmmakers prefer to include at least one song on Hindu deities. Most recently, the animated film based on the life of Lord Hanumana was a superhit.

Hindu festivals are also an integral part of Bollywood. All the Bollywood celebrities enjoy celebrating big Hindu festivals such as Holi, Diwali, etc. together. Hindu festivals are also referred in most of the Hindi films. At times, they have been main themes of the movies.

Reincarnation is the favorite concept of Bollywood. A number of movies have been made using this concept and lots of them were super duper hits.
