Hinduism does not advocate proselytization as Hinduism was not founded as a religion. Hinduism mainly talks about the way of life which would lead to God, but if someone likes Hindu philosophy and wants to become a Hindu, he/she is always welcomed to Hinduism.

Some people have a misconception that to become a Hindu you have to be born as a Hindu only, but this is not true. You can become a Hindu even if you are born a non-Hindu and you are of a non-Asian origin. These are just a few examples. There are millions of people from all religions who have converted to Hinduism.

In fact, conversion to Hinduism is not actually proselytization, but it is just a “comeback to your original home” because “Sanatan Dharma” is the most basic religion (way of life) of each human being.

There are thousands of people around the world, from all countries, all religions, and all sects who embraced Hinduism.

From an estimate, there are as many as 1 million practicing Hindus, not of Indian origin, in the U.S. only.

There are some sects and movements in Hinduism. Some of the followers of such sects think that their sect or movement is not a part of Hinduism. E.g., Lingayat, Mahanubhav, Hare Krishna, etc. But even if a child says to a father that he is not his father does not mean that the child does not belong to the father. Because all of these sects have origins in the Vedas, they are a part of Hinduism. E.g., Bhagavad Gita is the “soul” of the Hare Krishna movement and it is the essence of the Vedas and the Puranas. Therefore, the Hare Krishna movement is also a part of Hinduism even if some of them do not agree with it.
