Hindu sages are the real founders of Hinduism. These are the people who wrote the Vedas, which are the foundation of Hinduism. Most of today’s customs and traditions are their gifts to humanity. They were not only philosophers but also scientists. Sushruta is considered the father of surgery. Sage Chyavan invented Chyavanprasha. Ayurveda and Yoga are the greatest gifts of Hindu seers to the world. They are so powerful that they even defy Trinity sometimes. The story of Sage Bhrigu kicking Lord Vishnu in the chest is well-known. Sage Vishwamitra was once very close to creating a replica of heaven.

Saptarishis:

Saptarishis are considered the greatest and most powerful among all the Hindu sages. Saptarshi is a group of seven sages. The names of Saptarishis are Agastya, Atri, Bharadwaja, Gautama, Jamadagni, Vashishtha, and Vishwamitra.

Classification of Hindu Sages:

Sages are broadly classified into four categories: Brahmarshi, Rajarshi, Devarshi, and Maharishi. A Rishi is an enlightened person who has done severe penance.

Rajarishi – these are Kshatriya kings who gained a Rishi’s status.

Devarishi – it means a celestial sage, like Sage Narada.

Brahmarishi – it is the highest rank of sages. Saptarishis belong to this category.

Maharishi – an enlightened spiritual teacher.

According to Amarakosha, there are seven types of sages, viz. Shrutarshi, Kandarshi, Paramarshi, Maharshi, Rajarshi, Brahmarshi, and Devarshi.
