Bollywood is the name given to the Hindi film industry in India. As most of the Indians are Hindus, Hinduism inevitably plays an important role in Bollywood.
If you have seen any Hindi films, you might have noticed that most of the Hindi films start with Hindu mantras such as Gayatri Mantra or Sarva Mangal Mangalye and/or with photographs of deities such as Lord Ganesha, Goddess Laxmi, Gurudatta, etc. Many banners have Hindu names like Om Productions, Lord Ganesha Entertainment, etc.
Before the launch of any film, producers wait for the Muhurat. Muhurat is an auspicious time on an auspicious day. Producers and film actors/actresses visit the famous temples of deities such as Tirupati Balaji or Siddhi Vinayak before the release of films so that God would help to make a film super hit.
Most producers and actors have their personal Gurus, which guide them in astrology and their career. Some producers even name the films starting with a particular letter. They also take the help of numerology, as they believe that their film would make good business if they do so.
Besides that, several films have been made on different Hindu deities and saints. Lots of them have made a good business also. In the initial days of Bollywood, most of the films were based on Hindu gods, goddesses, and saints. Though the trend is different nowadays, a few films are based on Hindu gods. Lots of filmmakers prefer to include at least one song on Hindu deities. Most recently, the animated film based on the life of Lord Hanuman was a super hit.
Hindu festivals are also an integral part of Bollywood. All Bollywood celebrities enjoy celebrating big Hindu festivals such as Holi, Diwali, etc. together. Hindu festivals are also referred to in most of the Hindi films. At times, they have been the main themes of the movies.
Reincarnation is the favorite concept of Bollywood. Several movies have been made using this concept and lots of them were super-duper hits.
Following are the Bollywood Movies which were based upon the concepts of Hinduism:
1. Jai Santoshi Ma.
2. Raja Harishchandra.
3. Saint Dnyaneshwar.
4. Karz.
5. Milan.
6. Karan Arjun.
7. Mehbooba.
8. Madhumati.
9. Agnivarsha.
There are many movies based on Hinduism scriptures, like Ramayan and Mahabharat. Recently released film Rajniti was just the modern form of the epic Mahabharata, which was also a super hit.
