1. Hinduism is the third-largest religion in the world.
There are about 1.2 billion Hindus in the world, out of which 97 crores (approximately 90%) reside in India.
2. The Rigveda is the most sacred book of Hindus, which is also the oldest book in the world.
The four Vedas, viz. Rigveda, Atharvaveda, Yajurveda, and Samveda are the most authoritative books in Hinduism. Other than the Vedas, the 18 Puranas are also holy for Hindus.
3. The Bhagavad Gita is the most popular Hindu book.
Lord Krishna told Bhagavad Gita to Arjuna when he was diverting from his duties during a war.
4. Hindus believe in one God called Brahman, but worship many gods because they think they are manifestations of Him.
As per the Puranas, there are 33 million gods in Hinduism other than Brahman.
5. Lord Shiva, Lord Vishnu, and Lord Brahma (collectively called Trideva) are the most important gods in Hinduism.

Their duties are to destroy, protect, and create the world, respectively.
6. Hindus also worship goddesses.

Goddess Parvati, Goddess Lakshmi, and Goddess Saraswati, the wives of Shiva, Vishnu, and Brahma, respectively, are prominent divine figures.
7. Whenever adharma (unrighteousness) increases on the Earth, Lord Vishnu incarnates and kills evils to restore dharma (righteousness).

So far, Lord Vishnu has taken nine incarnations, and the tenth will happen soon.
8. Some Hindu gods are depicted as having the faces of animals.
God Ganesha has the head of an elephant. Lord Narasimha has the head of a lion. Lord Hanuman is part-human and part-monkey.
9. Lord Krishna was very naughty in his childhood.
He used to steal curds from the houses and break the clay vessels of the Gopis when he was a kid.
10. Lord Vishnu incarnated as Narasimha to protect Prahlada, a 5-year-old boy.
Prahlada was a great devotee of Lord Vishnu, but his father did not like his devotion and ordered him to be killed. Therefore, Lord Vishnu in the form of Narasimha killed him and protected Prahlada.
11. Dhruva was another kid who was a great devotee of Lord Vishnu.
He did penance at a very young age and became the pole star per the Hindu scriptures.
12. The word Hindu is a collective noun used for the people living in the vicinity of the river Sindhu.
Originally, Hinduism was not a religion but a way of life. The real name of Hinduism is Sanatana Dharma, which is a way of life. Foreigners gave the name Hinduism.
13. Hinduism has no single founder.
Hinduism was not founded as a religion; therefore, it has no single founder. Enlightened sages like Saptarishi, etc., modified it from time to time.
14. Shaivism, Vaishnavism, and Shaktism are the main sects of Hinduism.
Nowadays, most Hindus follow Smartism and worship many different gods.
15. Hindus wear a mark in the center of their foreheads called Tilaka.
These Tilakas come in many shapes and colors. The followers of different sects wear different Tilakas.
16. The ultimate goal of a Hindu’s life is to attain salvation.
Hindu texts recommend that salvation can be achieved through Dharma, Artha, Kama, and Moksha.
17. The core philosophy of Hinduism is that the soul is immortal.
The death is of the body only. Our soul changes the body as we change clothes until it attains salvation.
18. Our fate depends on our Karma in past lives and present life.
Whatever good and bad happens to us depends upon our Karma (actions). Therefore, one should always do good Karma.
19. Depending on our Karma, we are born Brahmin (priest), Kshatriya (warrior), Vaishya (businessman), or Shudra (worker).

These four Varnas are further divided into different castes and form the basis of the caste system.
20. Hindus’ place of worship is called a temple.
Most of the Hindus worship God in the form of an idol. A temple contains one or many idols of gods.
21. Om and Swastika are the most sacred symbols.
Kalasha, Lotus, and Tilaka are other sacred symbols in Hinduism.
22. A cow is the most sacred animal in Hinduism.
Other than the cow, animals like dogs, snakes, tigers, monkeys, etc., are highly revered. Many animals and birds are the vehicles of Hindu gods. Most Hindus don’t eat beef. Hinduism strongly advocates vegetarianism.
23. The Ganges is the holiest river for Hindus.
Hindus believe that bathing in the Ganges water removes past sins. It contains viruses called bacteriophages that kill harmful bacteria in the water.
