The Bhagavad Gita is one of the most important Hindu books. It is a part of the Mahabharata and was narrated by Lord Krishna to Arjuna. Most of us are aware of the teachings of the Bhagavad Gita, but there are some interesting facts about the Bhagavad Gita that you would be surprised to know.

The following are some of the interesting facts about the Bhagavad Gita:

1. The narration of the Bhagavad Gita was first heard not only by Arjuna but also by Hanuman, Sanjaya, and Barbarika.

2. The real meaning of the Bhagavad Gita is “The Song of God.”

3. The Bhagavad Gita consists of 700 verses.

4. Charles Wilkins translated the Bhagavad Gita into English for the first time in 1785. 

5. It is believed that Lord Krishna tried to give the knowledge of the Bhagavad Gita to Duryodhana, but he refused. He said that he already knows what is right and what is wrong.

6. The Bhagavad Gita is written in Sanskrit.

7. The whole essence of the Bhagavad Gita is given in chapter 15.  

8. There are 18 chapters in the Bhagavad Gita. Also, there are 18 sections in the Mahabharata. The Mahabharata war took place for 18 days. The Pandavas and the Kauravas had 18 Akshauhinis of army units together.

9. Lord Krishna narrated the Bhagavad Gita to Arjuna more than 5000 years ago in 3137 B.C. 

10. So far, the Bhagavad Gita has been translated into approximately 175 languages.

11. The knowledge of the Bhagavad Gita was first given to Vivasvan (Sun-God) by Lord Krishna.

12. In Bollywood movies, it is shown that the Hindu witnesses have to take an oath of the Bhagavad Gita before saying anything in the court, but in practice, it does not happen. This was practiced by the British previously, but it had been discontinued a long time ago.

13. Some people claim that Einstein repented for not reading the Bhagavad Gita at an early age, but there is no solid proof for this.

  1. The entire Mahabharata is enacted to convey the essence of life that is Bhagvadgita! We can say Mahabharata is a part of Gita rather than Gita being part of Mahabharata!!
