There are many forces of nature active since the birth of the Earth, which can destroy it in a splash of a second. We are in Kali Yuga, which started 5000 years ago and will last a few thousand more years. Hindus believe that whenever such a catastrophe comes on the earth, Lord Vishnu reincarnates himself and saves human beings.

Even Nostradamus has predicted the future until the 38th century or beyond that.
